Reynders & Basketball

Peter started playing on a little league basketball team through our gym here, The Y. Our good friend is the coach and two of his kids are on the team, so it is a fun situation.

I have to say, it makes me happy that Peter enjoys playing basketball. I personally love the sport and I have learned many life lessons from my basketball experiences. I know Peter is only three and a half years old, but it is sure fun to see him so happy playing the game I love. Peter loves to shoot the ball, I think this is most definitely the thing he enjoys best. He also enjoys learning how to dribble, he has improved much with this over the last month. He also loves to just pass the ball. And of course, like every young kid, he loves to run!

His concept of the actual rules and dynamics of the game are limited. Though, he surprised me during Saturday's game. At the beginning of the game, both teams are given five different colored wrist, sweat bands. The purpose of this is to help the children understand who they are to guard on defense. Peter was wearing an orange band and he did well remembering to at least stand, with his hands up, by the other team's player wearing an orange wrist band. It was fun to see him look at his wrist band and then search for the other boy wearing the same color band.

We sure love our Peter and are grateful for this opportunity he has to learn how to work with others as a team and enjoy exercising his body. Peter sure is a special boy!

I am also currently playing on a basketball team, through David's school. I am playing on an intramural team. They allow the wives to play! There is a men's league and a women's league so no awkwardness ;) I am playing on the competitive team representing his Physical Therapy program. The team is fun and we have been playing real well together. We are undefeated so far! Here's a few pictures of the fun:

We love basketball!
Here are the kids cheering with signs they made:
